The 2013 Green Awards were on last night in the Burlington Hotel in Dublin and we were delighted to be shortlisted in two categories; Green Retailer and Green Entrepreneur. At the ceremony there were many business making a serious effort to minamise their impact on the Earth’s resources. Both large companies like Glaxosmithkline (winner of the large organisation and overall Green Award winner) and small innovative companies like Rainsafe, who make a product that treats rainwater to potable standards, are taking the green agenda seriously. It wasn’t all serious though, as host Dermot Whealan (Republic of Telly) compared the mighty Sun Mar Excel to R2D2 from Star Wars. Most people would be left speechless when a picture of a toilet comes up on an giant AV screen in front of a thousand people, nice one Dermot!
Sadly, it was not to be our night. We did not win in either category but I was delighted to get the opportunity to talk to Eco Eye‘s Duncan Stewart who was on the judging panel. There is a genuine ground water pollution problem in Ireland being caused by malfunctioning septic tanks and it was great to get this issue recognised at the awards.
We would like to congratulate all the winners at the Green Awards and we look forward to next years event.
